NWPC CA State Board Elections

Elections for the 2017/2018 NWPC CA State Board members will be held during the 2016 State Convention in San Jose.  All board positions are open to members in good standing with NWPC.  Your dues must be kept current and there must be no contraversy surrounding your membership with NWPC.

Requirements:

  1. At least one member of your local caucus must submit a nomination form on your behalf.  Download the Nomination Form.  If you are a member at-large, a member of the state board must nominate you.
  2. Submit the Nomination Form, along with a cover letter, resume, and two letters of recommendation, one from your local caucus and one from another local CA caucus.
  3. Nominations will be taken from the floor.  However, nominee must have the above referenced materials available for the board to review, prior to voting.

Open Board Positions

Officers

President:

Duties:

    • Convene and preside over meetings of the Board of Directors
    • Serve as the official spokesperson for NWPC-California
    • Call and preside over meetings of the Executive Committee, as needed
    • Supervise the implementation by contracted agents and State Officers of policies and procedures established by the Board
    • Lead the NWPC-CA representatives at the National Board of Directors
    • Work with the California Governor’s Office, the California Senate, the California Assembly and the National Office of NWPC in the development of an NWPC-CA Appointments Project
    • Vote only in case of a tie

Recording Secretary:

Duties:

    • Record and transcribe the minutes of Board meetings
    • Send copies of approved motions to Chair, Bylaws Committee, for review re: potential Handbook revisions
    • Distribute minutes to designated participants within one month after the meeting
    • Mail meeting notices and agendas to designated participants
    • Maintain permanent file of meeting minutes, forwarding to NWPC-CA Office at end of term

 Treasurer (INC, PAC, & WLF):

Duties:

    • Shall be bonded.
    • Oversee the collection of monies to the INC, PAC, & WLF accounts, and disburse all monies as authorized by the Board of Directors.
    • Maintain INC, PAC, & WLF ledgers, and bank accounts
    • File necessary reports to public agencies as required by law and send a copy to the president.
    • Act as advisor to the Budget & Finance Committee.
    • Conduct training sessions for local caucuses in regard to their INC, PAC & WLF accounts.
    • Consult with chapters on operational/procedural matters involving filing reports to the Fair Political Practices Commission.
    • Maintain close contact with the President and Vice President of Political Action to ensure that contributions approved by the Board of Directors are made to the campaigns in a timely manner.
    • Enforce the rule that requires each caucus remit to the State PAC Treasury the percentage of political fundraising produced by the Local Caucus as defined in Chapter 2. Paragraph M. and Paragraph G.4.
    • Act as advisor to the Budget & Finance Committee.
    • Conduct training sessions for local caucuses in regard to their PAC.

 VP of Political Action:

Duties:

    • Chair the Political Action Committee and direct efforts to gather all information needed for the committee to make recommendations to the Board of Directors on endorsement and funding of candidates.
    • Contact Regional Directors and local chapters to obtain the necessary information to evaluate candidates from their area.
    • Assume full responsibility for obtaining information for the Political Action Committee to evaluate candidates in non-caucus areas.Prepare PAC reports to the Board of Directors.
    • Develop strategies for NWPC-CA to participate in statewide campaigns.
    • With the assistance of the Regional Directors and local chapters, identify potential women candidates for election or appointments.
    • Work with the President and Regional Directors on national and statewide appointments to Boards and Commissions:
      • Work with Regional Directors and local chapters to obtain information on potential applicants.
      • Develop a process for evaluating and recommending appointments candidates.
      • Advise local chapters on how to create an appointments project.
    • Maintain a database.
    • Work with local caucuses to encourage funding and volunteers for endorsed candidates.
    • Attend state and regional political meetings to meet candidates and keep abreast of issues and legislation relevant to our bottom line issues; e.g., the Women’s Political Summit.

 VP of Education and Training:

Duties:

    • Develop and organize training and education programs to enhance the skills of NWPC members.
    • Organize all campaign skills workshops in California.
    • Coordinate National campaign skills workshops with the National Office.
    • Develop and organize Board training in California for each region.
    • Develop and organize training programs and educational partnerships specifically designated to increase participation of young women and women of color in the campaign process.
    • Work with State Directors, Young Women’s Task Force and the Women of Color Task Force to assure local caucus participation in NWPC Education and Training Programs.

Committee Chairs:

Standing Committee Chairs will be appointed by the Board of Directors.  If you wish to be considered for appointment as a Committee Chair, please submit the same paperwork (mentioned above) as you would for the Board positions.

Communications:

Duties:

    • Oversee the production of the state newsletter.
    • Direct the media relations and publicity:
      • Issue press releases.
      • Develop and maintain press list/database in major media markets.
      • Organize press conferences.
      • Arrange interviews for the state officers.
    • Advise and train the local caucuses on media relations and publicity.
    • Oversee creation and maintenance of Website.
    • Clarify media/press role between State and the local caucuses.
    • Develop press packet.

 Fundraising:

Duties:

    • Organize statewide fundraising events.
    • Aid and advise local caucuses as needed in the development and production of local fundraising events.
    • Develop, with the aid of consultants as needed, a program of corporate fundraising.
    • Report to the Board on all NWPC fundraising activities in the state.

Duties:

    • Plan, organize and coordinate outreach efforts for membership retention and development (with members of the Executive Board and others)..
    • Aid and advise local caucuses, as needed, in membership development.
    • Report to the Board on all NWPC membership development programs in the state.
    • Oversee procedural requirements related to membership policies.
    • Oversee the development of new local caucuses.
    • Review for potential action, annual Affirmative Action reports from local caucuses.
