Vivian Clecak of Human Options:
"Beyond the Veil of Affluence: The Hidden Domestic Violence in Wealthy Communities; What Can We Do to Help End the Culture that Tolerates Date Rape and Domestic Violence?"
Vivian Clecak is the founder and the heart and soul of Human Options, founded in 1981 to help victims of domestic abuse through prevention, providing safe shelter, counseling and assisting victims in moving on to a violence-free new life. Domestic abuse is a huge problem – one in three women in the US will be a victim at some time in her life. Vivian will talk about the problem of domestic abuse among the affluent, notwithstanding the stereotype that abuse is not an issue in wealthy communities. She’ll also discuss our core culture that turns a blind eye to domestic abuse and what we might do to change that culture. She’ll also educate us about Human Options and its contributions to our community.
