    The History of Mothers Day

From NWPCOC to you, happy late Mother's Day! We are thinking of those who are mothers, those who have lost mothers, mothers who have lost children, and those who are yearning to be mothers! In fact, Mother's Day has a deep and interesting history.

  • April: Recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April 2021 marks the official 20th anniversary of SAAM. The need to recognize this movement is imperative. As the National Sexual Violence Research Center writes, "It's impossible to prevent an issue no one knows about, and it’s difficult to make people aware of a problem without providing a solution." As an organization dedicated to supporting women of all backgrounds, we want to join in raising awareness, and being a part of the solution.

    Hate is a Virus Discussion

The recent murders of API (Asian and Pacific Islander) women in Atlanta has shocked us to the core. The subsequent violence towards API elders has been additionally terrifying and eye-opening. With the racially charged language towards the pandemic used by Donald Trump, violence against APIs have risen over 1900%. This is nothing new, but it definitely is a problem.

The phrase “Hate is a Virus” has grown in popularity since the start of the pandemic. So much so that it started an initiative. Tammy Cho and Michelle K. Hanabusa founded Hate Is A Virus, a nonprofit community of mobilizers and amplifiers to dismantle racism and hate. They continue to mobilize the community to participate in local and national campaigns, create space for dialogue and education, and provide actionable steps and funding in partnership with trusted community leaders.

NWPC OC stands with the API community locally and nationally. We are committed to protecting womxn and making sure they have rights and protections.

Join us on April 8th for a discussion with Hate Is A Virus Co-Founder Tammy Cho, NWPC OC President Marlena Truong, and NWPC OC Events Chair Branda Lin. After the discussion, we’ll open it up to the audience for a check-in session. The evening will be an opportunity to learn how to be better allies and give APIs a chance to cope and heal.

This is a free event, but donations are appreciated. All donations go towards the efforts to identify, train, and elect progressive, pro-choice womxn in Orange County. You can donate here.

    RSVP for the event HERE.

    A Tribute to the Notorious

    Ruth Bader Ginsburg

It was January 26, 2020 when Kobe Bryant passed away and my boyfriend was devastated. He told me it seemed weird to be so sad and upset over someone he had never met in person, but had so admired. Kobe Bryant was my boyfriend’s idol.

    Ruth Bader Ginsburg was mine.

I remember seeing “On the Basis of Sex” in theaters. I was super excited to see it, but I couldn’t have guessed the impact it would have on me.

The last scene is what sticks with me to this day.
