Katherine Johnson

If you’ve seen the Film Hidden Figures, then you already know about some of Katherine Johnson’s achievements. Known as a “human computer,” her work was crucial in John Glenn’s orbital mission. Not fully trusting the computers, the astronauts requested Johnson specifically to run the calculations by hand to ensure the success and safety of the mission. In 2015, she was awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.
